eBay planning to Sell Skype

There are different rumors that eBay wants to get rid of Skype and planning to sell it. Here update is that New York Times reported:

eBay plans to unload Skype to a group of investors.Skype generates about $600 million in revenue annually and it is speculated that eBay might be able to get $2 billion for it.

The group of investors include Marc Andreessen via his new fund, Index Ventures, and Silver Lake Partners.

eBay acquired Skype in 2005 for $3.1 billion, outbidding Google and Yahoo in a deal that has come to be viewed as one of the worst technology transactions of the decade.
