Threat to Apple's iPhone Security

I would not be wrong If I say that iPhone is the market leader in mobile phone industry, you must know about PC hacking and mobile hacking, though most of the people dont know much about the mobile hacking. Well today I would tell you about the story of Charlie Miller (the man who hacked the MacBook Air in two minutes) and now he and his partner-in-crime, Collin Mulliner, plan to unveil an exploit at this Thursday's Black Hat cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas. Apparently, it would let a hacker take complete control of the iPhone with nothing more than a simple text message.

They are taking advantage of a flaw in how the handset handles text messages, Miller and Mulliner are able to dial the phone, visit Web sites, turn on the phone's camera and microphone, and, most importantly, send text messages that can hijack other phones. Miller told Forbes, about the precautions of mobile hacking that "The only thing you can do to prevent it is turn off your phone."

This is not only the iPhone flaw the pair plan to disclose at the conference. Another hole in the SMS system (which also effects Android handsets) can knock the phone off a cellular network for about 10 seconds.

Miller and Mulliner told the respective companies about the exploits over a month ago, and while Google was quick to patch the hole, Apple has yet to fortify the vulnerability. "I've given them more time to patch this than I've ever given a company to patch a bug," Miller explained to Forbes.

The comments (Warning: PDF) were filed in response to a request by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) to legalize the jailbreaking of iPhones to allow consumers to run non-Apple-approved software -- which is now a necessity for all those Google Voice fans with iPhones.

While the rest of the world has been freaking out and forcing Microsoft to launch a "browser ballot" when installing Windows (instead of loading Internet Explorer by default), Apple has been quietly embracing its more draconian impulses and making more and more enemies along the way.

BlackBerry 9700 Review and Specifications

RIM announced Blackberry 9700 I don’t have a sexy codename for this BlackBerry to attach to the model number, our very same ninja is back again with a list of specifications for this unseen and unnamed device that will launch as the BlackBerry 9700. I am presenting you some specs of Blackberry 9700:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • UMTS/HSDPA
  • 480×360 resolution display
  • Wi-Fi a,b,g
  • OS 5.0
  • QWERTY keyboard
  • 3.2 megapixel AF camera
  • Bluetooth
Boy Genius Report said that "We know, we know, specs on paper are one thing — we’re working on getting more information, don’t worry."

Some blogs loke blackberrycool.com also put up a story saying the BlackBerry 9700 is the BlackBerry Onyx. but actually the specs for the Onyx, known as the 9020.

BlackBerry Cool is guessing that CrackBerry is using an outdated device number and the 9700 is just the BlackBerry Onyx, formerly known as the 9020. Here are our arguments:
  • RIM has a history of changing device numbers before release. This is nothing new.
  • The specs of the 9700 are the same as the “9020″
  • Also, we’ve been getting a lot of emails from tipsters saying so. Here is a quote from one source: “I have seen, touched, and used the Onyx and in the About screen it says 9700. It looks like the 9020 screenshots that are going around and it has a Bold-like back.”
Let’s wait for the release and see if BlackBerry Cool is right. It’s possible that the 9700 could be a device with the same specs as the 9020 with a slider or a touchscreen, but the truth is always much simpler.

How to do marketing with Twitter and Facebook?

Well since you buttered me up with the "can't wait for the wisdom in your replies" remark,

I guess I'll share what works well for me here so you can adapt it to what you're doing and be successful
when you implement it also.

Here goes:

1.You can get a 'feed' to integrate your twitter account with your facebook account.

This means when you send a "tweet" it will also appear as an "update" on your facebook profile page simultaneously.

If you want to really kick it all into high gear,

do these 2 steps which will make getting automated traffic from those social networks
and even the search engines part of your daily routine by just doing what you do anyway.

If you have an account as an expert author with ezine articles,

2.Add your twitter username and password to your author's profile so each new article you publish there
will automatically be tweeted to your twitter page.

Since you've already integrated it with facebook, it will also
appear with your clickable link on facebook too.

Now here's the second step.

From within your aweber autoresonder account,

3.Tick the "tweet this" checkbox each time
you send out a broadcast to your list.

What this does is tweet your email message out
as a link to your aweber account.

Guess what?

It's also going to facebook too!

This is a great way to get more traffic from twitter, facebook, ezine articles and the search engines
simultaneously with very little effort on your part.

Each of these steps takes no more than a couple of minutes to just fill out a field
and you're in business.

To your success!

Why There's a Need to Convert PDF to Doc

The PDF file, or the Portable Document Format file, has been popularized by Adobe Systems for faster document exchange. In particular, this file format is used when it comes to large files, especially when the file contains a lot of graphics or images. However, as convenient as this format strives to be, it still presents quite a downside, especially when you are opening this file format. This is because using the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is the software that specializes in accessing PDF files, can take a toll on your system's operations. Specifically, opening the Adobe Acrobat Reader can cause your computer to experience freezes or hang-ups. Thus, there comes a time to know just how to convert PDF to Doc files.

System hang-ups are not the only reasons as to why it is important to know Html to pdf how to convert these PDF files into Doc files. There are still so many other reasons. For instance, it is actually very difficult to cut or copy a portion of any PDF file and then paste it to another file format. Moreover, this problem presents another problem, which is the difficulty that comes with editing PDF files. Just how can you edit a portion of a file format that you cannot even piece together through simply copying and pasting?

Just think of the PDF file as a typical picture. You cannot really just choose whichever part of the picture and edit it according to your preference, right? The same scenario happens when you deal with PDF files. Thus, it would make more sense to convert PDF files to Doc files, so that you can do whatever sort of editing you want to do.

Fortunately, there are so many software applications that can efficiently convert these PDF files into Doc files. The problem here would then lie in choosing which of the many applications you should get. But before you go on and choose amongst these many applications, it is a must to know a little bit more about the file format that you are about to convert.

There are actually eight object types that can comprise a PDF file. Numbers, arrays, strings, streams of large data, names, items grouped according to names, Boolean values, and the null object are the object types that a PDF file can contain. What the converter software does is it actually analyzes the language that any of these eight different types represent. This is the first step towards successful file conversion.

Of course, there are also other ways of converting a PDF file into an ordinary text file without having to use the converter application. One way of doing this is to copy the contents of the PDF file in question and paste them into ordinary text file format. However, since the PDF file pretty much operates like your regular photograph, you cannot really lift just a portion. You will have to copy all of the contents. This is the major downside here because the process can be very tedious when you are dealing with a lot of PDF files. Thus, the usage of converter software still rules over this simple method.

Big Brands not able to get their facebook custom URL

bajafreshlogo

Recently Facebook launch their custom URL feature in order to make user profiles easily search able through search engines, but the name was available on first come first out bases, if you are late then you may not get your custom desired name, same is the case I was reading today on mashable.com by adam saying about bajafresh, he said that:

Earlier this evening, I caught wind of a promotion Baja Fresh was running via their Facebook Page: a free burrito with the purchase of a soft drink. Since there’s a restaurant close to my house, I decided to jump to what I assumed would be Baja Fresh’s Facebook Page and print out the coupon. Continue Reading...

MARKETERS: Why I Ignore Every E-mail You Send and Every Page You Write

The Beginning

This isn't a love letter. It won't start with "Fellow Marketer..." or "Dear Friend..." or any of the ten regurgitated, barely changed, slightly insulting phrases I see on a daily basis. This isn't a money-motivated, buy-from-me, "only ten ebooks left at this price" piece of copy. I'm not selling anything and I don't care what you think about me at the end.Listen MP3 Songs

My motivation is a little different. Quite frankly, the internet is polluted with your hype. It's crap. Sure, it converts, but it gets annoying. You and I both know that javascript timer only fools the people who probably won't succeed with your "Guru Program" anyway. And that brightly colored text you CSS'd into every H1? It's even more frustrating.

Every time I see anything even resembling a traditional landing page, I immediately click the back button. Don't even get me started on your marketing e-mails - I don't open those if I see your name on them.

The Middle

The problem, friend (see how insulting it is?), is the fact that you provide NO value, NO substance, and then expect me to believe you're really a guru. Have you ever noticed that in bigger cities it's nearly impossible to give away free money?

I had a 'job' at one point giving away free public transit passes in a major US city with no catch. People were so used to getting screwed, they didn't want to touch me with a ten-foot pole. There's just so little trust left in the world.

If I sign up for that free eBook you offer, and then get nothing but spam from you, I'm going to park your sender address in my spam box - permanently - and never check it again.

And please, please stop using the same subject lines that every other marketer uses. "I'm sorry, ^name" worked three years ago.

A Better End

So how do you get your most difficult customer to buy from you? It's easier than you think, but your greed will never let you do it.

Give me information. Without charge.

No, seriously.

If you're really an expert, chances are you've got a surplus of information, right? So why not give me SOME of that information? Prove yourself to me. If you're not giving away free stuff in every e-mail, you're not marketing, you're fishing.

I want to buy from you - I really do. I just don't believe the hype.

Make Phone Calls Using Your PS3 Console and Jajah Service

Although the original article is quite dated, we haven't posted on this here yet... so for those who didn't already know:

Similar to Skype, Jajah is a VOIP service which has modified its interface to allow gamers to make calls using the PS3 browser.

According to this report, users will be able to make “free or cheap” phone calls, though the number has to be pre-configured.

To quote: “Jajah now brings free or cheap calling into the living room and away from computers. Initiating a call with Jajah can now be done while lounging in front of the TV with no need to fire up the computer,” said Roman Scharf, a Jajah co-founder.

“This means that the whole family, regardless of interests or technological skills, can make cheap or even free calls from their normal home phone.”

Warning: California is going to default!

As sure as the sun will set on the Golden State, analyst Martin Weiss says California is going to default.

By Jon Birger, senior writer| money.cnn.com

NEW YORK (Fortune) — Known for his early warnings on Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, analyst Martin Weiss of Weiss Research is now sounding the alarm about state of California municipal bonds.

In a new report, Weiss has some rather blunt advice for California muni investors: “Sell all California paper now!” His reasoning? California is facing a $24 billion budget gap with no obvious way to close it.

The state has appealed to Washington for a federal bailout, but it got a cool response from the Obama Administration. The next step is draconian cuts in state services and payroll, but Weiss says that will only deepen the “depression” in California, where the unemployment rate is 11.5%, by further cutting into tax revenue.

Asked to put odds on California defaulting on its $59 billion in outstanding general obligation bonds, Weiss doesn’t hedge. “It’s unavoidable,” he tells Fortune.

If he’s right, the impact on investors would be far broader and deeper than Bernie Madoff, General Motors (GMGMQ) or any of the other investment implosions that have occurred over the past year. Municipal bonds tend to be a retail product, which means that those most affected by a large muni bond default are not endowments, banks, or foreign governments but mom-and-pop investors.

A California default would be especially devastating for two reasons: Munis have generally been viewed as a safe haven and California is the nation’s largest issuer of tax-exempt bonds. According to Morningstar, assets in California muni bond funds now total $46 billion — with billions more of California bonds held in national muni funds and individual bond portfolios.

But if the situation is so dire, why do credit rating agencies Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s still give the Golden State an investment-grade, single-A rating? Weiss says that the rating agencies have been consistently behind the curve, and this crisis is no different. “They’re very hesitant to downgrade,” he says.

That said, both Moody’s and S&P have put the state on a watch list and warned of possible downgrades. A downgrade below triple-B would likely precipitate a mass stampede by money market funds out of short-term California notes and make it much harder for the state to roll over maturing debt.

While Weiss believes the numbers point to a California default, he doesn’t rule out last-minute intervention by Congress or the Obama Administration. Washington may be suffering from bailout fatigue, but the political consequences of allowing the largest state in the nation to default on its bonds may prove too great.

The last time a leading municipal bond issuer was on the verge of default was 1975, when New York City was going through its own financial crisis. Then-President Gerald Ford gave a speech vowing to veto any federal assistance for New York — a speech immortalized by the next day’s New York Daily News headline, “Ford to City: Drop Dead.”

Even though Ford later approved federal loans to New York, the political damage was done. New York had voted Republican in 1972, but four years later, Ford wound up narrowly losing the state to Jimmy Carter, which ultimately cost him the election.

Analysts think Obama is unlikely to make a similar mistake. “The most important factor here is that California has 55 electoral votes,” says Greg Valliere, Washington policy strategist at Soleil Securities. “At the end of the day, that’s why I think Washington blinks.”
